The action E5 has as main purpose the reduction of the stakeholders’ impact on the conservation of the area. Therefore, a visit to the Donau Auen National Park, Austria and Ferto Hansag National Park, Hungary, was organized. The touristic infrastructure was presented, where after the lectures given by the park representatives, various administrative, conservation and financing concerns were debated, by emphasizing the way in which the local communities can be involved in tackling with them.
The participants have undertaken field visits, where the success of the applied methods was highlighted. A unique part of the discussed issues at the Ferto Hansag National Park was the way in which the administration of the park has found alternative methods to self-finance its activities, by means of breading domestic animals. Moreover, this method brings benefits to the conservation itself- for example, the controlled grazing favorises the presence of high conservative value species of plants.
